Assessment of Groundwater Potential Zones Using GIS and Fuzzy AHP Techniques—A Case Study of the Titel Municipality (Northern Serbia)

Groundwater is one of the most important natural resources for reliable and sustainable water supplies in world. To understand use resources, fundamental characteristics groundwater need to be analyzed, but many cases, situ data measurements are not available or incomplete. In this study, we used GIS fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) techniques delineation potential zones (GWPZ) Titel Municipality (northern Serbia) based on quantitative assessment scores by experts (hydrologists, hydrogeologists, environmental geoscientists, agriculture experts). Six thematic layers, such as geology, geomorphology, slope, soil, land use/land cover, drainage density were prepared integrated into software generating final map. The area falls five classes: very good (25.68%), (12.10%), moderate (15.18%), poor (41.34%), (5.70%). GWPZ map will serve improve management these ensure future protection development agricultural sector, implemented method can other similar conditions.
